About us!
We weren’t always called the Iowa Furries! Our first name was the Central Iowa Furries, and we started back in 2013. The group started off as small bi-monthly meets in Des Moines, Iowa. From 2014 to 2017 there were occasional small meets, but nothing too elaborate, our current owner Emerson started Fur-Bowls in Newton in 2015. There were a few larger scale events in 2018 and 2019 that went by the name “Blitzcon”. Those were not official Central Iowa Furries events, but still very important to the Iowa furry community!
Events were halted in 2020 due to the pandemic, and by 2023 Ammodog was the last remaining leader of the Central Iowa Furries. He looked towards uniting all Iowa furry communities under one umbrella, and over the next few years expanded to all reaches of Iowa.
In 2024, the Iowa Furries Discord server joined with the C.I.F. community, and in 2025 Emerson brought in the Telegram chat! In June of 2026, we officially changed our name to Iowa Furries to better represent our community.
We are a non-profit organization, focused on donation and helping our community! Since the change in June of 2026, we have worked hard to change our group for the better and already had our first donation event in July of 2026 hosted by our secretary Orion!
What now? Our community is growing quickly! We love seeing our community flourish and become a happier healthier place, gaining new members and getting involved with other Iowan groups. We will be reaching out to even more animal shelters for donation so we can be a helping hand all over Iowa. Our current biggest goal is to start Iowa’s first furry convention to spread positivity even further! We stand strong on our morals and beliefs, and we hope that shows through everything we do.
We strive to be a safe community for people of all ages and are very strict with our rules and dress code when it comes to our all-ages events. Parents, feel free to reach out to us with any questions or concerns and we will be happy to answer those!
